The Fijians are the happiest people on earth… for real.
The beaches are stunning, the ocean is like bath water and the fruit is the best I've ever tasted.
What better reasons to go?
As you pull up to your island on your little boat, you are greeted with flower garlands accompanied by a song from the locals. This place is magic, and the people are magic.
I visited Taveuni Island, Mana Island, Bounty Island and Mondriki Island (Tom Hanks Island) All very different but all equally stunning and worth a visit.
Many people purchase a Bula pass which gives you access to many islands with an open ended ticket. Its pretty expensive but no one regrets it. Fiji is a lovely place to go as a traveler as you get to see the real Fiji - behind all of the luxury resorts and the "honeymoon" destination people usually regard it as.
This is how the locals travel so we wanted to integrate ourselves.
You may have heard of the term 'Fiji time' Yes, the Fijians aren't exactly known for their time keeping, so we ended up leaving the dock 8 hours later than we were supposed to. Which made the trip around 33 hours long. We were actually on the boat for the whole time that we were waiting.
I remember falling asleep, and when I awoke, I was expecting to be nearly at Taveuni Island... but we were still in the dock haha!
Jeez what a trip that was. There were also no beds on the boat, you kind of just slept wherever you were. Unfortunately the carpet was ridden with bed bugs so we all got bit to shit!
It's an experience I'll never forget and we had such a laugh, so I will savour it and I am forever grateful for that crazy boat trip.
We had a few down pours — mostly on Taveuni Island. This Island was a lush green jungle. Waterfalls sit hidden amongst the trees, and if you look up, you witness a sea of mangoes (the best mangoes I've ever had in my life)
Ask a friendly guy to climb to the top and grab you one! They love it.
To live more simply, to love more freely and to connect more deeply.
